VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Vicksburg High School’s softball team split a pair of preseason scrimmages on Saturday, defeating Yazoo City 13-9 before falling to Riverside 15-13.

Yazoo City jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening inning before the Missy Gators answered in their first trip to the plate. Jakayla Hampton recorded a hit and Laney Kinstley followed with a double that drove in a run. Harmony Harris later delivered an inside-the-park home run to even the score at 3-3.

Yazoo City surged back in the second inning with six runs to take a 9-3 advantage. Vicksburg responded with a rally of its own to tie the contest.

Camden McGloster highlighted the comeback with a two-RBI triple. Hampton and Casey Coleman each added RBIs, while Kinstley produced a steal of home. Carma Wilson brought the game even at 9-9 with an RBI.

The Missy Gators held Yazoo City scoreless in the final inning. Harris then sealed the win with another inside-the-park homer, this time a grand slam, to account for the final four runs in the 13-9 victory.

Kinstley finished with two strikeouts in the circle.

Game 2

Vicksburg found itself in a deep hole against Riverside, trailing 15-2 midway through the contest. The Missy Gators mounted a late charge by plating 11 runs in the final inning, but the rally fell just short in a 15-13 loss.
