LELAND, Miss. (VDN) — A series of shootings at high school football and homecoming events across Mississippi on Friday night and early Saturday left several people dead and many more injured, according to law enforcement officials.

Major Incidents:

  • South Delta High School, Rolling Fork:
    • Shots were fired during the school’s football game.
    • At least two people were wounded, the Sharkey County Sheriff’s Department confirmed.
    • No arrests have been made, and investigators are still working to determine a motive.
  • Leland, Mississippi:
    • Four people were killed and at least 12 others were injured when gunfire erupted shortly after midnight on a downtown street following Leland High School’s homecoming game against Charleston.
    • Four victims were airlifted to nearby hospitals; their conditions were not immediately available.
    • The shooting occurred off school property but near large post-game crowds.
    • No suspects have been identified as of Saturday morning.
  • Heidelberg High School:
    • A homecoming celebration turned deadly when two people were killed and at least one other was injured.
    • Police Chief Cornell White said one victim was found on the baseball field and another near the bleachers.
    • Authorities have identified 18-year-old Tylar Jarod Goodloe as a person of interest.
    • Multiple agencies, including the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, are assisting in the case.
