One in Custody After Police Chase
VICKSBURG, Miss – A person is in custody after a police chase through Vicksburg.
The incident began this morning while police were investigating a report of domestic violence on a woman. The victim stated her ex showed up at her house last night, kicked in her door and took her car keys. This morning she saw the vehicle at his home with all four tires flattened.
She subsequently went to the police department to file a report. After filing the report, Vicksburg Police escorted the victim to the location of the vehicle on Togo Street in an effort to retrieve it. While they were there a gray pick up truck was observed by the victim pulling up to the location. She told police she recognized that vehicle and that he may be in it. At the same time, that vehicle backed up quickly and fled the area. Other units with the VPD spotted the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to yield and police gave chase.
The truck fled down Mission 66 towards Sky Farm. It continued down Lovers Lane, Sky Vale, and onto Sky Farm where police were able to successfully deploy spike strips. Spike strips put hollow spikes in a vehicles tires and deflate them, slowing the vehicle and making it difficult to control. The weakened truck was able to maneuver onto Pemberton where two males jumped from the vehicle. They were quickly apprehended and taken into custody by the Vicksburg Police Department, and one was released with no charges. There are no reported injuries in this event.
A subsequent search of the vehicle discovered a felony amount of drugs and weapons. The man was identified as 22-year-old Ginuwine Carter, who had several outstanding warrants on him.
Carter faces several charges including felony eluding, felony possession of marijuana, gun enhancement, along with domestic violence charges.
