Murder Case Dismissed; Carlos Harris Sentenced for Gun Charge
VICKSBURG, Miss – The 2018 murder case against Carlos Harris has been dismissed. In December, Harris pled guilty to being a felon in possession of a handgun. This morning he was sentenced by Judge James Chaney to 10 years with three years suspended and seven years (day-for-day) to serve. He was previously charged in the death of Jasmine Adams.
The Victim’s Family
The victim’s sister shared a few words before sentencing was handed down to Harris.
”I am hurt and I will forever be hurt by the actions of Carlos Harris,” she said. “I don’t hate him but I hate his actions and we will forever be broken by the loss of Jasmine.” I hate he took advantage of that life and he is a coward because he knows the truth about what happened to my sister.” The victim’s sister went on to describe how abusive Harris was to Adams saying he doesn’t deserve freedom because he wasn’t capable of love.
The victim’s grandmother also made a statement. “I don’t think this is justice but I’ll leave it to the Lord,” she said.
Pamela Jackson spoke on Carlos’ behalf saying that he was a productive individual and he feels regret.
Harris expresses regret
Harris also spoke before his sentencing. ”I take full responsibility of my actions and I’m hurting just as bad.”
Harris was accused of shooting and killing his then-girlfriend Jasmine Adams in 2018. The murder case against Harris was prolonged due to him switching multiple attorneys during that time.
Earlier Murder Case:
On August 22, 2018, Police responded to the 300 block of Lakehill Drive where they found Adams dead from a gunshot wound to the head. The initial report was that there was a home invasion. He and Adams’ children were inside the home at the time of the killing and were unharmed.
In 2019, the Vicksburg Police Department arrested Harris, and he was officially indicted by a grand jury in 2023.
