Sheriff Pace updates community on the 8-year-old who was shot yesterday

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Sheriff Pace provides an update on the 8-year-old who was shot yesterday afternoon on Abraham Drive.

“The child made it through the night, and it appears she will recover from her injuries,” said Pace.

Judge Southerland held the Initial Appearance in County Court this morning and held Destiney O’Neal (14) without bail on a charge of Aggravated Assault. The eight-year-old victim is the suspect’s sister, and she is expected to recover.

Monday afternoon, just before 4 p.m., the Vicksburg Warren 911 Center received a call of a shooting on Abraham Drive in Warren County. The first unit on scene reported one individual appeared to have been shot. The location of the shooter was unknown at that time. A few minutes later, radio traffic indicated a family member had contacted law enforcement after convincing the shooter to turn themselves in.
