“We are excited to welcome Dr. Barrazueta to our medical staff,” said Nicholas Arledge, Chief Executive Officer of Merit Health River Region. His advanced training, commitment to conservative care, and dedication to treating patients like family align with our mission to provide exceptional care to our patients and our community. Dr. Barrazueta’s expertise allows patients to receive specialized orthopedic care close to home.”

Dr. Barrazueta earned his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University in

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency through the Tufts-affiliated program in Boston, followed by advanced fellowship training in hand and upper extremity surgery at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Originally from Tampa, Florida, with family roots in Ecuador, Dr. Barrazueta was inspired to pursue orthopaedic surgery after being a patient himself. That experience gave him a deep appreciation for how vital hand and upper extremity function is to daily life and how skilled surgical care can restore mobility and quality of life.

“I am excited to help build a comprehensive orthopedic practice where patients have access to the highest level of care without having to travel,” said Dr. Barrazueta. “ I have personally experienced how challenging it can be for families to travel for medical care, and I’m proud to bring my expertise to Vicksburg and the surrounding areas.”

Dr. Barrazueta takes a conservative, patient-centered approach to care, focusing on non-surgical options whenever possible. He is known for taking time to get to know his patients and treating each individual as if they were family.
