Two Vicksburg men arrested in Claiborne County drive-by shooting
CLAIBORNE COUNTY, Miss. (VDN) — Two Vicksburg residents were arrested following a late-night drive-by shooting in Claiborne County, authorities said.
The Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shots fired around 11:19 p.m. on Elmwood Street in the Sugar Hill area. A caller reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing a black vehicle with chrome wheels fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed.
Deputies, along with the sheriff, responded immediately and began canvassing the area. Authorities soon spotted a vehicle matching the description traveling from Highway 547 and conducted a traffic stop. The occupants were detained without incident.
During the stop, the driver told deputies there was a firearm in the back seat and gave consent to search the vehicle. Investigators recovered a firearm and additional evidence. Officials said shell casings and bullets found in the vehicle were consistent with those recovered at the scene, where four .223 shell casings were collected.
Following interviews, both suspects admitted involvement in the shooting, which authorities said stemmed from an ongoing dispute with a resident at 1013 Elmwood Street.
Arrested were Javeion Perkins, 19, of Vicksburg, and Arkeem Banks, 18, of Vicksburg.
Both appeared before Judge Flowers, who set bond at $50,000 each.
