One seriously injured in accident on Highway 3

YAZOO COUNTY, Miss. (VDN) — One person was seriously injured in an accident on Highway 3 just north of the Warren County line.

Just before 7:30 a.m., an accident was reported near the Warren County/Yazoo County line. An SUV had left the roadway and hit an embankment, trapping the driver.

Units were dispatched from Warren County and Yazoo County, with Yazoo County first responders getting to the accident scene first. They reported that the accident occurred 200 yards inside Yazoo County, and that responding units from Warren County were canceled. Regardless, Vicksburg Fire Chief Trey Martin and Warren County Fire Boss Jerry Briggs responded to the accident and assisted in recovering the patient from the vehicle.

A medical helicopter was called to the scene to transport the injured party to a hospital in Jackson.

Highway 3 was closed while first responders worked to free the trapped victim and to allow the medical helicopter to land on the Highway. There is no current update on the patient’s condition.
