Port Gibson native Tyrone Shorter wins fourth straight district title with Louisville
LOUISVILLE, Miss. (VDN) — Port Gibson native Tyrone Shorter captured his fourth consecutive district championship as head football coach of Louisville High School. The Wildcats continued their dominant season Friday night with a 37-6 victory over Greenwood High School, improving to 7-2 overall.
Louisville finished district play undefeated at 4-0, marking yet another impressive milestone under Shorter’s leadership. The Wildcats have maintained their status as one of Mississippi’s most consistent high school football programs, a tradition that has continued throughout Shorter’s seven-year tenure.
Last season, Louisville advanced to the Class 4A state championship game but fell just short in a 29-28 loss to Poplarville High School. Despite the narrow defeat, the Wildcats ended the year with a strong 13-2 record.
Shorter, now in his 16th year as a head coach, has built a remarkable career résumé. He owns a 184-42 overall record and has won seven state championships—three with Louisville and four during his nine-year stint at Noxubee County High School.
Louisville will look to carry its momentum into the postseason when the Wildcats host Ripley High School on Friday night in the opening round of the playoffs. The Wildcats could be possibly playing for another state title in the upcoming weeks.
