WCJHS swept Pearl in Junior High basketball
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Warren Central Junior High School’s girls’ basketball teams swept Pearl Middle School on Thursday night, taking both the seventh- and eighth-grade games in front of their home crowd.
The seventh-grade Lady Vikes opened the night with a close 9-8 win over the Lady Pirates. Kyla Sloan and Zay’la Davis led WCJHS with four points each, while Teralyn Sims added a free throw to help secure the narrow victory. Pearl’s Paige led all scorers for her team with five points in the loss.
In the eighth-grade matchup, the Lady Vikes built an early lead and never looked back, claiming a 32-22 victory. Warren Central went into halftime up 16-7 and maintained control throughout the second half. Skyla Cosby delivered a standout performance, hitting two 3-pointers and finishing with 15 points. Jornei Lane added eight points, Amelia Jackson contributed six, Laney Bennett scored two, and Layla Walker hit a free throw.
For Pearl, Williams led with six points, while Guthrie and Mayers each added five.
With the wins, the Lady Vikes continue to build momentum as they prepare to travel to Madison Middle School on Monday and they will host Byram on Thursday.
The boys’ game statistics were not reported.
