Port Gibson rolls past Raymond 14-1 on road

RAYMOND, Miss.(VDN) — Port Gibson High School’s baseball team crushed Raymond 14-1 on the road Saturday, racking up 10 hits while breaking the game open midway through the contest.

Javion McGrew got the Blue Waves on the board first with a single. Raymond answered to tie the game 1-1 by the end of the first inning.

Port Gibson regained control in the third inning. The Blue Waves drew two walks that led to runs before Akeem Wells delivered a two-run double and Braylon Carter followed with a one-run double. Port Gibson led 7-1 by the end of the third inning.

Joshua Jones and Devin McDonald extended the lead to 10-1 with singles in the fifth inning. The Blue Waves added four more runs in the sixth to secure the victory.

Carter finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs, while Jones went 2 for 3. McDonald (1 RBI), McGrew (1 RBI), Wells (2 RBIs), Johnson and Michael Evans each had one hit. Evans also struck out nine batters on the mound, and Centrell Hedrick recorded one strikeout.

Port Gibson will host Porter’s Chapel Academy on Monday at 6 p.m.
