RCEC students selected to serve on state superintendent’s student advisory council

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VWSD) — Two students from the River City Early College High School have been selected to serve on the Mississippi Department of Education’s (MDE) State Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, an honor that recognizes student leaders from across the state who are dedicated to improving education in Mississippi.
Erion Wilson and Anna Davis, both standout students at River City Early College, were chosen to represent their peers and provide valuable input to the State Superintendent of Education. The Advisory Council is made up of students in grades 11–12 who bring diverse perspectives from schools of all sizes and regions throughout Mississippi.
High school juniors may serve on the council for two years, while seniors serve for one year. As council members, Erion and Anna will act as liaisons between the Mississippi Department of Education and public-school students across the state.
The council’s purpose is to give students a platform to share their opinions, ideas, and feedback on educational opportunities and policy. Members are expected to attend scheduled meetings, prepare for discussions, and participate actively in group projects—all while communicating openly, respectfully, and constructively.
River City Early College Principal Kenitra Ezi expressed her pride in the students’ selection.
“Erion and Anna are exceptional representatives of our school and our community,” said Ezi. “Their leadership, academic excellence, and commitment to making a difference make them perfect ambassadors to serve on this council. I know they will use their voices to help shape the future of education in Mississippi.”
Reflecting on his selection, Erion Wilson shared,
“It means a lot to have the opportunity to speak on behalf of students across the state. I’m excited to bring ideas that can help make education better for everyone and to learn from other student leaders.” Anna Davis added, “Being part of the State Superintendent’s Advisory Council gives me a chance to share what students really experience day to day. I’m grateful for this opportunity to represent River City Early College and to help make a positive impact.”
The Vicksburg Warren School District congratulates Erion and Anna for this outstanding achievement and applauds their dedication to student leadership and excellence.
