Utica native wins National Title

Utica native Tavon Davis claimed a National Title in the NJCAA Indoor National Championship. He also set a NJCAA record in the 600m dash.

Lubbock, TX – The Hinds Community College Track & Field teams delivered another outstanding performance at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships, bringing home two national titles, a new NJCAA record, and multiple All-American honors. Competing against the best in the nation, both the men’s and women’s teams showcased their talent and determination, capping off an impressive indoor season.
The women’s team secured an impressive 7th-place finish, while the men’s team finished 12th overall in the nation. Leading the way were Tavon Davis and Queen Usunobun, who both claimed NJCAA national championships in their respective events. Davis dominated the 600m dash, not only winning the title but also setting a new NJCAA record with a blistering time of 1:15.61. Usunobun showed her speed and determination in the 400m dash, earning the national championship with a winning time of 53.89.
In addition to the national titles, Hinds had an impressive showing across multiple events, with 17 student-athletes earning All-American honors. Their success is a testament to the hard work and dedication put in throughout the season and the hard work of the coaching staff.
With a strong showing at indoor nationals, Hinds continues to build on its reputation as a powerhouse in NJCAA Track & Field. As the indoor season comes to a close, the teams will now shift their focus to the outdoor track & field season, where they will look to build on their momentum and chase even more championships.
