Vandalism at Fuzzy Johnson Park court prompts cleanup, investigation

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The basketball court at Fuzzy Johnson Park was vandalized when an unknown person poured pink paint on the court’s green surface, Alderman Mayfield said.
“As Ward 1 Alderman, I am incredibly upset and disappointed that someone decided to pour paint on the outstanding green surface at the basketball court by Fuzzy Johnson Park,” said Alderman T.J. Mayfield. “We have video evidence of the incident and we will catch the suspect soon enough. City workers will be working diligently over next few days to get it back to ‘near’ normal.”
Rick Daughtry, director of Vicksburg Parks and Recreation, said he has scraped the thick, sticky paint and blocked off the court to allow it to dry.
“I have scraped up the thick sticky part in hopes it dries enough to be played on and blocked it off with some panels to try keep folks off,” Daughtry said. “Please use the other court for now. I’ll check it again tomorrow to see how much it dried, and if so I’ll open it back up.”
Officials are asking the public to respect the blocked area while cleanup continues.
