VHS and WC earned road victories on Thursday

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Vicksburg and Warren Central high school baseball teams both earned road victories Thursday night, with Vicksburg defeating Leake Central 16-6 and Warren Central edging Germantown 5-4.

Vicksburg 16, Leake Central 6

Vicksburg got on the board in the first inning when Allan Allen delivered an RBI. The Gators found themselves tied 4-4 by the end of the second inning after Nick Carson added an RBI.

Vicksburg broke the game open in the fourth inning, scoring five runs. Abel Gonzalez and Kolten Thomas each hit two-run singles during the rally. The Gators added three runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh to secure the 16-6 win.

Thomas finished with two hits and four RBIs. Gonzalez had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs. Harrison Fisher and Ashton Harris each doubled in the victory. Allen (one RBI), Carson (one RBI) and Jacarey Burks each recorded one hit.

On the mound, Thomas and Gonzalez each struck out two batters.

Warren Central 5, Germantown 4

Warren Central rallied from an early deficit to claim a 5-4 win over Germantown.

The Mavericks took a 4-0 lead in the second inning. The Vikings responded in the third, tying the game at 4-4. Caden Cole sparked the rally with a triple to score the first run. Jacob Kealhofer followed with a double to drive in the second run, and Cole later scored on an error. Blake Caruthers added an RBI single to even the score.

After several strong defensive innings, Warren Central took the lead in the seventh. Justin Evans opened the inning with a double, and Cole delivered his second triple of the game to drive in the go-ahead run, giving the Vikings a 5-4 advantage.

Tristan Jamison struck out two batters in the seventh inning to help seal the win. Charlie Roberts and Nathaniel Moore also recorded two strikeouts each.

Trace Hood and Cole (two RBIs and two triples) each had two hits. Evans (one double), Kealhofer (one double and one RBI) and Caruthers (one RBI) each finished with one hit.
