VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — For years, one phrase has echoed through conversations around town: “There’s nothing ever going on in Vicksburg.” Now, a new tool aims to change that perception by putting the city’s events, resources, and information in the palm of residents’ hands.

The Vicksburg App, developed as a Leadership Vicksburg service project, officially launched this summer with the goal of creating a one-stop hub for community engagement. The app consolidates updates from the city, county, and soon from the school district, while also highlighting upcoming events, local resources, and opportunities for residents to get involved.

“This project came from listening to the community,” said Samantha Wiest, a member of the Leadership Vicksburg class. “We realized there’s not a lack of events or information, it’s that people don’t always know where to find it. The app bridges that gap.”

Leadership Vicksburg, a program of the Vicksburg-Warren County Chamber of Commerce, challenges each class to create a project that benefits the community long-term. The 2025 class identified connectivity as a pressing need and worked with local partners to design an app that is both practical and sustainable.

The app features an updated calendar of community events, links to city and county services, soon to be school announcements, and other resources. It also serves as a platform for nonprofits and organizations to share information directly with residents.

Local leaders say the app will not only make it easier to stay informed, but also foster a stronger sense of pride in the community.

“We want to shift the narrative,” said Chris Rials, Director of Chamber Programs and Corporate at the Chamber. “There’s a lot happening in Vicksburg , from festivals and school activities to city initiatives and volunteer opportunities. Now, it’s all accessible in one place.”

The app is free to download and is available on both iOS and Android devices. Organizers hope that by making information more accessible, more residents will participate in events, support local businesses, and take advantage of opportunities across the city.

With the Vicksburg App, the refrain of “there’s nothing going on” may soon be replaced with a new one: “What’s next?”
