Vicksburg High clinches playoff berth with win over Cleveland Central
JACKSON, Miss.(VDN) — Vicksburg High School’s boys basketball team punched its ticket to the postseason Tuesday night with a 42-35 victory over Cleveland Central.
The win improved the Gators to 13-10 overall and 7-4 in district play.
Vicksburg led 11-8 at the end of the first quarter and held a 19-17 advantage at halftime. The Gators stretched their lead to 30-24 entering the fourth quarter and held off Cleveland Central down the stretch.
Jadarius Henderson knocked down two 3-pointers and finished with 12 points. Jaquez Jones added 13 points to give the Gators two players in double figures. Jaquez Marshall contributed seven points, Marlyn Foy scored six, and Daquan Warfield added two.
After missing the playoffs last season, Vicksburg has bounced back to reach the postseason under head coach Kelvin Carter.
The Gators will face Holmes County Central on Thursday at Lanier High School.
