Vicksburg man arrested after fire set at girlfriend’s home

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — According to reports, Vicksburg Police Department has arrested Steven Bailey, Jr., 26, of Vicksburg, on charges of arson after he reportedly set his girlfriends house on fire.

Vicksburg Fire Chief Trey Martin said VFD Battalion Chief Tim Love and Engine 6 responded to a fire at 1415 High Street at around 2:51 a.m. in the morning of Saturday, Nov. 1. Upon arrival the Engine 6 crew found a small fire beneath the home in the access opening.

No one was harmed in the fire and firemen were able to distinguish the fire preventing total loss. The home sustained some damage to the underside of the structure as well as some electrical wiring damages.

Fire Investigator Nathaniel Williams was called in to determine the cause of the blaze. The cause of the fire was then determined to be arson in nature. Williams identified the suspect.

According to a release from VPD, Bailey was in a domestic dispute with his girlfriend, who resides at the home, and he was identified as the suspect.

On Monday, Nov. 3, Bailey appeared before Judge Angela Carpenter at his initial appearance and bond was set at $25,000.
