Vicksburg native Brett Morgan wins second straight district championship as West Point’s Head Coach

WEST POINT, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg native Brett Morgan captured his second consecutive district championship as head football coach at West Point High School after the Green Wave defeated New Hope 38-7 on Friday night.

The win marked West Point’s second straight district title under Morgan, who is in his second year leading the program after serving several seasons as the team’s offensive coordinator. In his debut season last year, Morgan guided the Green Wave to a state championship with a 28-21 victory over Gautier.

Last night, the Green Wave came out dominating from the start of the game. By the end of the first quarter they had a crucial 21-0 lead after scoring three touchdowns. By halftime, they were up 28-0. West Point scored the remaining of their 10 points in the third quarter to quickly put the game away.

Friday’s victory improved West Point’s record to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in district play. The team’s wins this season include:

  • Louisville — W 9-7
  • Starkville — W 48-15 (Sept. 5)
  • Noxubee County — W 27-20 (Sept. 12)
  • Tupelo — W 28-21 (Sept. 26)
  • Callaway — W 42-0 (Oct. 3)
  • Pontotoc* — W 50-13 (Oct. 10)
  • Lafayette* — W 41-6 (Oct. 17)
  • Caledonia* — W 51-7 (Oct. 24)
  • New Hope* — W 38-7 (Oct. 31)

West Point will close out its regular season next Thursday when it hosts Columbus High School.
