Vicksburg native Mike Johnson named MVP after historic Germantown win over Madison Central
MADISON, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg native Mike Johnson earned MVP honors after leading Germantown High School to a 21-17 victory over Madison Central last Friday. The win marked the first time in program history that the Mavericks have defeated the Jaguars.
Johnson shined on both sides of the ball, starring at wide receiver and in the secondary. On offense, he caught five passes for 111 yards, consistently moving the chains and setting up key scoring opportunities. On defense, Johnson made seven tackles, including a crucial open-field stop that prevented Madison Central from reaching the end zone late in the game.
Through the season, Johnson has totaled two receiving touchdowns, more than 30 tackles and one interception. The standout senior is now in his second year with the Mavericks, who improved to 5-3 with the victory.
Before transferring to Germantown, Johnson played at Vicksburg High School, where he helped the Gators reach the playoffs in both football and basketball. Last season, he also contributed to Germantown’s state championship run in basketball.
Johnson and the Mavericks will look to continue their momentum when they travel to face Clinton on Friday night.
