VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Long before the first ticket is scanned and the first dish is served, a group of dedicated volunteers is hard at work ensuring one of Vicksburg’s most beloved events goes off without a hitch.

The United Way of West Central Mississippi’s Supper on the ’Sip, held each fall atop the Old Mississippi River Bridge, has become a signature evening for the community; offering local food, live music, and breathtaking views. But at the heart of it all is the Supper on the ’Sip Committee, a team of behind-the-scenes champions who make the event possible.

“Our committee is truly the backbone of this event,” said Michele Connelly, United Way of West Central Mississippi. “They are the ones who spend months planning, organizing, and coordinating every detail to make sure our community has an unforgettable experience.”

The committee’s responsibilities range from securing vendors and coordinating logistics with law enforcement and city officials, to decorating the bridge and welcoming guests with warm hospitality. Each volunteer brings a unique skillset, from event planning and fundraising to marketing and operations ,and together, they ensure every aspect of the evening runs smoothly.

For many of the volunteers, serving on the committee is more than a task list. It is a way to give back.

“Being part of this team means you’re part of something bigger than yourself,” said Ali Hopson, Committee Chair. “Supper on the ’Sip isn’t just about food and music. It’s about community, connection, and raising support for the work United Way does year-round.”

The event has grown in popularity since its launch, with proceeds directly supporting United Way’s mission to improve youth opportunity, financial security, life-long literacy, health, and community resiliency across West Central Mississippi.

For the committee, each ticket sold represents another step toward helping neighbors in need.
As the bridge lights twinkle and guests gather in laughter and fellowship, most will never see the countless hours of planning and preparation. But the Supper on the ’Sip Committee doesn’t do it for the spotlight. They do it for Vicksburg.

“When the night finally comes and you see the community smiling, enjoying themselves, and coming together, that’s the reward,” said Susan Upshaw, Restaurant Committee Co-Chair. “That’s why we do it.”

Tickets go on sale to the public October 13th, 2025. Visit United Way of West Central Mississippi’s Facebook page and website for upcoming details.
