VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Warren Central knocked off crosstown rival Vicksburg High 14-1, using a huge third inning to seal the victory.

Jacob Kealhofer got things going for WC after nailing a 2-run double in the first inning to put the Vikings up 2-0. Neither team earned a run in the second, but things quickly heated up in the third.

The Vikings pulled off a 9-run third inning as some major hits were in effect. Justin Greer sacrificed to bring in an RBI just shortly before Caden Cole smashed a 2-run double, then advanced to third on an error. Cole scored on a wild pitch a short time later just before Ryan Steed stepped up and hit a 2-run double.

Kealhofer then hit a ground ball and reached on an error, which sent Trace Hood to home plate. After a single from Greer, WC took the 11-0 lead going into the fourth.

Nick Carson brought in the run for the Gators in the fourth from a single.

Blake Caruthers ended the game as he knocked out a 3-run home run to put the score at 14-1.

”It’s a home team rivalry so we love whooping on some Gators,” Caruthers said. “It’s like that in football and baseball.”

Caruthers (3 RBIs), Cole (2 RBIs), Greer (2 RBIs), Steed (2 RBIs) and Hood each had one hit in the win.

Charlie Roberts pitched most of the night for WC as he threw a no-hitter and struck out five batters. Thomas Antwine pitched in relief and struck out one batter.

The Vikings (2-0) will host Madison Central on Friday.
