Warren Central, St. Aloysius open season with road victories
VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Warren Central and St. Aloysius opened the baseball season with wins on the road Tuesday night. The Vikings defeated Jackson Prep 7-3, while the Flashes rallied past Prairie View Academy 9-7.
Warren Central
Warren Central took advantage of three walks to score three runs in the opening inning. Jackson Prep answered when Rowe delivered a two-run single to cut the lead to 3-2 by the end of the first.
Jacob Kealhofer and Ryan Steed each drove in a run over the next two innings to push the Vikings in front 5-2 heading into the fourth.
Tristan Jamison and Justin Evans added RBIs in the sixth and seventh innings to help secure the 7-3 victory. Milner doubled in the sixth to account for Jackson Prep’s third run.
Nathaniel Moore handled most of the work on the mound for Warren Central and struck out six batters. Jamison struck out two batters and Caden Cole recorded one strikeout each in relief.
Evans, Jamison and Kealhofer each finished with one hit and one RBI, while Trace Hood also had a hit.
Warren Central will host Vicksburg High on Wednesday.
St. Aloysius
A big seventh inning lifted St. Aloysius to a 9-7 comeback win over Prairie View.
The Flashes trailed 2-0 entering the fourth inning before Pierson Smith knocked in a run from a single and Robert Lee followed with a two-run single to give St. Aloysius a 3-2 advantage. Prairie View responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to move back in front 7-3.
Neither team scored again until the seventh, when the Flashes erupted for six runs. Max Hargrave started the rally with a two-run single, and Smith ripped a three-run double to put St. Aloysius ahead 8-7. Bryce Shows later scored on an error to cap the comeback.
Cohen Coomes shut the door in the seventh, allowing no runs to preserve the win. Coomes struck out six batters, while Emerson Blackburn fanned three.
Smith went 2-for-2 at the plate with four RBIs. Hargrave and Lee each drove in two runs. Sadler Lambiotte and Keller Bradley added one hit apiece.
