Warren Central tops Petal 9-2; falls short to Hillcrest

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Warren Central High School’s baseball team split a pair of games over the weekend, defeating Petal 9-2 on Friday before falling 3-0 to Hillcrest on Saturday.

Friday

The Vikings controlled Friday’s matchup from start to finish in a 9-2 win over Petal.

Ryan Steed led the way offensively with two hits and two RBIs, including a two-run single. Caden Cole also finished with two hits and two RBIs. Cole was effective on the mound as well, striking out two batters and allowing no hits.

Justin Evans tripled in the win, while Charlie Roberts added a double and one RBI. Tristan Jamison recorded a hit.

Justin Greer pitched most of the game and struck out six batters. He also helped his own cause at the plate with a hit and an RBI.

Saturday

Warren Central struggled offensively in a 3-0 loss to Hillcrest.

Braxton Hartley and Cole each recorded a base hit. On the mound, Blake Caruthers struck out four batters, Beau Bradley struck out three and Steed struck out one.

The Vikings will return to action Tuesday when they travel to face Northwest Rankin.
