Letter to the Editor: What about the Vicksburg Municipal Airport?
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The following was a letter submitted to VDN by a concerned citizen of Vicksburg.
Dear Editor:
I was glad to see you publish the agenda of Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors‘ meeting. I was, however, disappointed to see no mention there of the apparent proposed closure of Vicksburg Municipal Airport, widely rumored around town.
As a pilot who has flown into Vicksburg in the past, I know many pilots will be unhappy to see its disappearance. Why have no elected officials of either the City or the County addressed this planned move with their voters? Is a modification of such magnitude of the area’s transportation resources permitted without any communication with the citizens of the area?
This smells of Vicksburg’s long-standing behavior patterns: lack of communication with and the involvement of those who live here, such as the time around 1952, when the City ambushed the people by executing an agreement with the National Park to swap land that would change The Park’s character forever.
When will citizens of the City and County insist on a stop to this kind of behavior?
Yours sincerely,
Bernadette Cahill
Vicksburg, Miss.
