Letter to the Editor
When will the public get to hear about the airport?
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The following is a letter to the editor concerning the Vicksburg Municipal Airport.
Dear Editor:
Thank you for publishing Alderman Bailey’s open letter ascribing her silences about key matters, to her concurrence with the views of Mayor Thompson.
However, as a very well-crafted PR response to a communications problem, it is characteristically vague, failing to address anything substantial potentially affecting Vicksburg.
Specifically, she fails to address anything about the widely rumored proposed sale of Vicksburg Airport, which I understand from reading your rival’s news reports, is already far along the process to completion and continues to progress apace.
Yet, to my knowledge, not one word has been said publicly about this project, which will leave Vicksburg without its official airport on the east side of the River. Apart from the aviation transportation implications of closure, I wonder what will happen to emergency responses should the I-20 bridge or the rail bridge fail?
This is just one issue that residents of Vicksburg and Warren County should be concerned about. So when are locals going to be informed officially about this grand project? As a pilot and member of the Aircraft Owners’ and Pilots’ Association, I understand that projected plans of such import and magnitude must, according to FAA regulations, be communicated to the public before commencement. So when are locals going to be accorded their required public meeting, so that we can hear at least from Mayor Thompson?
Sincerely,
Bernadette Cahill
