Dr. John E. Walls Jr.: 1947-2025

VICKSBURG, Miss. — Dr. John E. Walls Jr., a resident of Vicksburg, passed away on Monday, August 25, following a brief illness. He was 78.

Dr. Walls had served in various positions in the Vicksburg School System, having retired as deputy superintendent. He was a life alumnus of Alcorn State University and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, where he was a founding member of the Omicron Rho Lambda Chapter in Vicksburg. He was also a member of the Esquire Club of Vicksburg and the Elks Lodge, where he was the past grand master, as well as various other social and civic organizations.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Elsie Simmons Walls Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Jo Ella Walls of Vicksburg; his sons, John E. Walls III of Aubrey, Texas, and Karlandos Womack of Byram, Mississippi; his daughter, Joscelyn Walls Humphrey of Vicksburg; his brother, Allen Walls of Vicksburg; his sisters, Annie Kennedy and Lola Wells of Chicago, Illinois, and Linda Doss of Vicksburg; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other friends and relatives.

A memorial celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 29, in the Ardis T. Williams Auditorium at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Arnita Spencer officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Ardis T. Williams Auditorium.
