Bobby Ray Childers
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Bobby Ray Childers passed from this life on Tuesday, April 21, 2025 at Heritage House in Vicksburg. He has lived a full life in Warren County, where he reached the age of 93. He was a good man, strong in virtue and patience.
He graduated from Redwood in the Class of 1950 and was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.
He began his near-60-year career in printing with the Vicksburg Evening Post & Sunday Post Herald soon after graduation. It was while working there that he met his future wife, Jaunita Douglas, and they were married soon after.
After they married, Bobby did his tour of duty in the Army, where he was stationed in South Carolina during the Korean Conflict. Settling down in Vicksburg, they raised their two sons, David Wayne and Danny Ray, on the same hill that Jaunita had grown up on.
Bobby was preceded in death by his wife, Jaunita; his parents, Carson and Annie Mae Foard Childers; a sister, Geraldine Childers Cockrell; and three brothers, Carson Childers, Graham Childers, and William Childers.
He is survived by two sons, David Wayne Childers, Vicksburg, and Danny Ray Childers (Jeannie), Eagle Lake. Three grandsons, David Childers, Shawn Childers, and Caleb Philly. Two granddaughters, Tori Adams and Kristen Philly, six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bobby’s passing has left a huge void in the Childers family. His passing is felt deeply by Wayne and Danny, who have lost their father, and by the grandchildren who have lost a Paw Paw. All are aching inside, just longing for another chance to talk to him one more time. To all the family, God knows your heart. He made all those hearts that are so broken right now. Lay your burdens at His feet.
Services will be held at Glenwood Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 28th, at 11:00 AM in the chapel. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of services. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Dr. Josh Gee, Pastor of Woodlawn Baptist Church, will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Shawn Childers, Ray McCaskill, Ethan Childers, Evan Childers, Kirkland Childers, and Ronnie Davis. Honorary pallbearer is Payton McDaniel.
