Remembering Sara Shelton Hill
Remembering Sara Ann Shelton Hill, a dedicated educator and loving family member who impacted many lives in Vicksburg.
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Sara Ann Shelton Hill, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Oct. 5, 2026 at her home. She was born on February 16, 1938, in Natchez, Miss., to Everett Shelton and Janie Shelton Short.
After raising her three children, she pursued her degree in education and graduated from Mississippi College in 1978. She began her career in education at Vicksburg Warren School District. At Redwood Elementary, she served as teacher and principal before going on to be the Curriculum Development Coordinator and School Steering Committee Chairman in the Administrative Office. Sara retired from the Vicksburg Warren School District in 1998.
She is survived by her two sons, William Martin Hill (Priscilla) of Port Neches, Texas and Todd Shelton Hill (Kevin Wysner) of Chamblee, Georgia. She has four grandsons, Aubrey Hill, Keith Hill, Justin Hill, and Christopher Hill and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett Shelton and Janie Shelton Short; her husband, William Rufus Hill; and her daughter, Deborah Joyce Hill.
Her celebration of life service will be held at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg, Miss., on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026. Visitation for friends and family will be at 10 a.m. until the hour of the memorial service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is celebrating new life in heaven with family and friends that have preceded her.
