School district tries again to spend tax dollars on Orlando trip

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg Warren School District Board of Trustees meeting agenda for September again includes sending the Superintendent and Board members to Orlando for a national conference.
After the motion failed to pass at the August Board meeting, the VWSD Board of Trustees is again attempting to send the Superintendent and Board members to the National Career Academy Coalition Annual Conference held in Orlando, Fla. in October.
Listed as a separate item, the trustees did approve travel for teachers and educators to attend the conference.
The item on the September agenda listed as I-8, states as a description, “Attendance at the National Career Academy Coalition (NCAC) Annual Conference will provide the superindendents and board members with professional learning focused on strengthening career academies and expanding college and career readiness.”
The cost is $2,975.29 with the contact person listed as Dr. Torian Holloway.
Additionally, although the district approved a member from the district level of Innovation to attend the conference at the August meeting, there is an additional item listed as I-1, on the September agenda requesting additional funds.
The item specifies out-of-state travel for DOI staff to attend the conference at $5,712.18.
