Vicksburg receives feasibility study for proposed waterpark

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The City of Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen received the results of a feasibility study about a proposed waterpark at the regular meeting held Monday, Sept. 21.
The city received a feasibility and an economic impact study to see if the park would be viable in the City of Vicksburg.
According to the reports, the waterpark would be located at the 55- acre Key City Park location at 255 Fisher Ferry Road. This was determined because the waterpark could utilize Key City Park’s parking lot.
The proposed park would include a toddlers’ zero depth entry pool with spray pad features; children’s pool with play structure, large tipping bucket, & kiddie slides; lazy river; wave pool; four-lane mat racer slide; tube slides; speed slides; leisure pool with water basketball; pool with inflatable course; swim-up bar; and a food and beverage outlet.
The reports indicate the waterpark would generate approximately $2,170,000 per year.
Mayor Willis Thompson said the study was the first step.
“I know there has been talk about a waterpark in the city for many years, but this is always to first step to make sure that it is feasible. We study the market and compare the investment versus what we are going to get when we actually build this waterpark,” said Mayor Thompson.
He also stated that he thinks the City, by itself, should not be in the business of a waterpark, but that a partnership could be productive. Mayor Thompson also confirmed there have been conversations with possible partners for the waterpark.
