Patrice Johnson named Mississippi Middle School Teacher of the Year
Patrice Johnson, a teacher at Vicksburg Junior High School, has been named the 2026 Mississippi Middle School Teacher of the Year. She received this honor at the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics Fall Conference, along with a $250 award.
Vicksburg Junior High School teacher Patrice Johnson has been named the 2026 Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics Middle School Teacher of the Year.
Johnson, a 2006 graduate of Vicksburg High School, received the honor during the organization’s Fall 2026 Conference, according to a Facebook post by the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Along with the recognition, Johnson received a $250 award for her dedication to teaching mathematics and making a positive impact on students.
Johnson expressed her excitement and gratitude in a Facebook post following the announcement.
“I am truly humbled, honored, and grateful to be named the 2026 Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics Middle School Teacher of the Year,” Johnson wrote. “Teaching is my purpose, and I’m blessed to have the opportunity to inspire young minds and share my love for mathematics every day.”
The recognition was also an emotional moment for Johnson as she reflected on her late parents, whom she credited for their love, prayers and guidance throughout her life.
“Today, I especially celebrate with my Mom and Dad watching over me from Heaven,” Johnson wrote. “I wish they could be here to see this achievement, but I know their love, prayers, and guidance continue to surround me. Big Mom and Big Dad, I hope I’m making you proud. This one is for you!”
The Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics presented several awards, grants and scholarships during its fall conference to recognize educators for their accomplishments and contributions to mathematics education.
Johnson concluded her message by expressing her faith and continued passion for teaching.
“Grateful. Blessed. Honored. Still teaching. Still loving Math” Johnson wrote. “All glory belongs to God!”
