VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The City of Vicksburg has released an update concerning the recovery efforts following a cyberattack on the city’s computer systems.
Mayor Willis Thompson issued the following update:
The City of Vicksburg continues to make steady progress in its recovery efforts following the recent ransomware attack that disrupted portions of the city’s computer systems.
Working alongside external cybersecurity specialists, we remain actively engaged in assessing affected systems, addressing identified issues, and carefully restoring operations. While the recovery process has been gradual, progress is being made, and systems are being brought back online in phases as they are evaluated and determined to be safe for operation.
Because this remains an active cybersecurity investigation, and to not impede or impair the investigation there are limitations on the specific information we can publicly disclose. Our priority is not simply to restore operations as quickly as possible, but to ensure that systems are restored securely and responsibly.
We understand the inconvenience and frustration these disruptions have caused, and we share the public’s desire to return to normal operations. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our residents, businesses, and employees as we work through this process.
The city remains committed to restoring services, protecting the integrity of its systems, and keeping the public informed as additional information becomes available and can be appropriately shared.
