BOS recognize September as National Recovery Month
September is National Recovery Month. Learn how our community supports recovery from substance abuse and mental health challenges.
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Warren County Board of Supervisors officially passed a proclamation recognizing September as National Recovery Month.
At the regular BOS meeting held Monday, Sept. 21, District 1 Supervisor Ed Herring read a proclamation declaring the county recognized the efforts of the month.
NRM was established in 1989 by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to promote evidence-based treatment and recovery practices. It also celebrates the nations vibrant community and honors all those who help make recovery possible.
By declaring the proclamation, the county recognizes healing from substance abuse and mental health challenges is possible and individuals in recovery make meaningful contributions to their families, neighborhoods and communities.
By supporting the initiative, the city respects that treatment, recovery, peer, and family support, in addition to stable housing, meaningful employment, education, and strong community connections can play vital roles in helping individual build healthy and productive lives.
Each Supervisor wore purple to show support for the proclamation. The effort shows the Supervisors fostering a show of support for the initiative.
