VPD releases crime stats for August

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Vicksburg Police Department released the crime statistics for the month of August at the Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting held Monday, Sept. 21.

The department logged 3,395 calls, filed 821 reports, made 294 arrests, served 96 warrants, issued 186 citations, gave four warnings and submitted 7 DUIs.

For the months of July and August, Vicksburg had one murder charge in August and none in July. There were no cases of manslaughter during the the two month period.

There was one sexual assault case in August with none in July.

The department reported two robberies in July and three in August. Pertaining to aggravated assault, Vicksburg police handled four cases in July and increased to six in August.

The department reported only one business burglary in July and two in August, but investigated four residential burglaries in July and three in August.

Addressing auto burglaries, VPD reported two from unsecured vehicles in July. In August, VPD reported six auto burglaries three from secured vehicles and three from unlocked vehicles.

There were five case of auto theft cases in July, and reported two in the month of August.

There were no cases of cracking or kidnapping during there two month period.

As a common occurrence in Vicksburg the abundance of cases involved domestic violence. The department reported 20 instances domestic violence cases in July and 20 in August.
