A Georgia man was arrested in Warren County over the weekend after authorities discovered a stolen Polaris side-by-side utility vehicle on a trailer behind a U-Haul truck.

Donald Josh Gantt, 43, was taken into custody by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and charged with receiving and possessing stolen property.

The investigation began when officers in Rankin County contacted WCSO and connected deputies with law enforcement officials in Franklin County, Georgia, regarding a Polaris side-by-side that had been reported stolen.

Rankin County authorities believed they had missed the vehicle in the Pearl area and notified WCSO.

The stolen utility vehicle was eventually located on a trailer attached to a U-Haul truck in the Walmart parking lot in Vicksburg.

Warren County sheriff’s deputies in unmarked vehicles maintained surveillance of the truck while waiting for Gantt to return. Once he returned to the vehicle, deputies took him into custody.

Officers with the Vicksburg Police Department and Mississippi Highway Patrol also assisted by covering surrounding roads in case Gantt attempted to flee.

Gantt also faces a vehicle theft charge in Georgia. He has had multiple previous encounters with law enforcement, including several felony convictions in Texas.

Following his arrest, Gantt appeared before Warren County Justice Court Judge Jeff Crevitt, who set his bond at $100,000 on the stolen property charge.

Gantt also remains under a hold related to the Georgia charge.
