Merit Health River Region launches wellness campaign

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Americans are living longer than ever, but increased life expectancies do not always translate to improved health. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the average life expectancy in the United States is now 77.5 years, a record high that underscores the need for long-term wellness strategies.

Merit Health River Region is responding to this challenge with the launch of Enjoy the Ride: Navigating a Longer, Healthier Life, a 12-day email campaign designed to equip residents with tools to age well. The email campaign, starting September 15, uses a road trip theme to guide participants through critical aspects of health and prevention. You can also view videos on Merit Health River Region’s Facebook page for healthy tips.

Each day focuses on a different area of the body, including the brain, vision, hearing, heart, kidney, liver, gut, musculoskeletal system and sleep. The series highlights the conditions most commonly associated with aging, while offering practical prevention tips and lifestyle recommendations. By addressing multiple systems of the body, the campaign emphasizes how interconnected health choices are and how early action can shape long-term outcomes.

The initiative combines education and engagement in a format accessible to a wide audience. Through the themed approach, Merit Health River Region aims to make complex medical information approachable and encourage individuals to view wellness as an ongoing journey.

Public health experts continue to stress that longevity depends on more than medical advances alone. Preventing chronic disease, protecting cognitive function and maintaining quality of life all hinge on daily habits. Email campaigns like Enjoy the Ride are designed to bridge the gap between living longer and living healthier by empowering individuals to take proactive steps at every stage of life.
