VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg Mayor Willis Thompson has been elected Vice Chairman of the Central Mississippi Mayors Association, chosen by his fellow mayors during the organization’s meeting in Pearl on Wednesday.
“I’m honored that my fellow mayors put their trust in me for this position,” Thompson said. “When mayors across Mississippi work together, every one of our towns is stronger because of it. This position gives Vicksburg a seat at that table, and I’ll bring back what we learn to keep building a safer, stronger, smarter Vicksburg for the future.”
The association brings together 35 mayors in the Central Mississippi region to share ideas, compare solutions, and pursue new approaches to the challenges facing their communities. The CMMA works closely with the Mississippi Municipal League, members of the Mississippi Legislature, and a number of state agencies.
Thompson said he sees the role as a way to strengthen Vicksburg’s relationships with leaders across the region and in the state capitol.
“This is a chance to put Vicksburg in front of the people making decisions that affect our city and to bring new opportunities home, while helping our neighbors do the same,” Thompson said. “It’s always an honor to be asked to serve.”
