Project Warm – you can help

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — An effort to provide community members with warm clothing for winter will begin on October 13.
Multiple businesses around town are collection/drop-off sites to receive warm items of clothing for men, women, and children. All sizes are needed. Suggested items include: hats, gloves, socks, scarves, and long underwear. Additionally, there is a tremendous need for blankets, particularly “throw size.”
PLEASE – NEW ITEMS ONLY!
Collected items will be distributed to a variety of shelters in Vicksburg and around Warren County. Items must be dropped off at one of the sites listed below between October 13th and October 24th. Drop off sites are:
- Helen Burks, Shelter Insurance
- Crawford Street United Methodist Church
- Lindsay, Dedeaux, State Farm Insurance
- Kevin Ford, Ford Insurance
- Hunt Hale, Alfa Insurance
- Donna Halford, State Farm Insurance
- Karley Hayes, The Parlor Salon
- Stacia Johnson, Alfa Insurance
- Susan Johnston, Vicksburg Insurance Agency
- Diane Kemp, State Farm Insurance
- Robyn Lea, State Farm Insurance
- Amanda Ross, Alfa Insurance
- Amber Sanders, The Salon
“During the cold winter months, there is a tremendous need for warm items to be distributed to individuals who are living in shelters or on the streets. Every year, the shelters deplete their supply of these items.” This event is designed to replenish the supply of these items prior to the really cold weather hitting the Vicksburg area.
This is the third year of Project Warm-Vicksburg and, as usual, the community has responded very generously in filling this ongoing need. We expect particularly cold weather this winter and know the need will be even greater. Let’s meet those needs before the frigid temperatures arrive.
Lindsay Dedeaux, State Farm Agent, who participates in this event every year, stated: “This is such a significant and much needed program in our community in trying to meet the needs of so many who have no other way to keep themselves or their children warm during the coldest months of the year. It is our hope that you will join us in giving generously to provide assistance in such a tangible manner.”
Amazon has bundled donation packages which are affordable and include hats, gloves and socks. There are options for men, women and children. Walmart has throw size fleece blankets that are often less than $5.00. We encourage everyone to open their hearts and give generously to this project.
No cash donations will be accepted.
