VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Marquis Knight has been crowned as the 2025 Homecoming King at Vicksburg High School. Knight learned of his selection just before the first football game of the season while riding the school bus to Natchez.

“My mom said congratulations but didn’t tell why,” Knight said. “All she said was that I’ll find out. Then my girlfriend Janiyah (Maid of Honor) texted me and said, ‘Congratulations King,’ so I kinda just connected the dots.”

Later that same night, Knight helped his football team defeat Natchez High School in their season opener.

“I was energized way more than I already was,” he said. “Then we won the game after, so I felt real good.”

At Vicksburg High, Knight serves as a team captain for the football team, vice president of the Key Club, treasurer for the Student Council, student ambassador, SGA member, National Honor Society inductee, and member of the track and field team.

Knight is the son of Harold Knight and Brittany Brown-Simpson. After graduation, he plans to continue playing football and has already been accepted to the University of Louisiana Monroe, where he plans to major in computer science with hopes of becoming a computer engineer or scientist.
