Abandoned house on Klein catches fire

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) – An abandoned home on Klein Street in Vicksburg caught fire on Friday morning.

Just after 8 a.m., an alert first responder reported seeing smoke in the Oak Street area. As firefighters were en route to investigate the smoke, a call came in that a structure on Klein Street, west of Pearl Street, was on fire.

Neighbors report that an area man was known to stay in the abandoned structure without electricity, water, or gas. He was not believed to be in the structure at the time of the fire, but has not been located at the time of this report.

Units with the Vicksburg Fire Department, including Engine 6, Engine 7, Platform 1, Battalion 1, Daryl Carson and FD-1, and Trey Martin, were on the scene. A fire medic unit assisted, as did the Vicksburg Police Department.

The fire is under investigation at this time
