Monroe graduates Magna Cum Laude from Southern Miss

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg’s Teyanna Monroe has continued to build her reputation for excellence after graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Monroe is a 2022 graduate of Warren Central High School, and named Valedictorian of her class.
She recently graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Chemistry and a minor in Biology — all while completing her education completely debt free. Her academic journey has been marked by numerous honors and achievements that reflect both excellence in the classroom and dedication to community involvement.
Among her many accomplishments, Monroe was recognized as a “Who’s Who” student at Southern Miss and successfully completed the rigorous Honors College curriculum. Her honors experience included the publication of a thesis, symbolized by receiving the distinguished Gold Cap and medallion. She also expanded her educational experiences internationally by studying abroad in Europe for a semester.
Monroe earned placement on the President’s List four times and the Dean’s List twice during her undergraduate studies, demonstrating her consistent academic excellence. She was also selected as a scholar in the prestigious Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program and earned membership in Order of Omega.
In recognition of her commitment to service, she was named a Southern Miss Citizen Scholar after completing more than 100 hours of community service.
Her academic excellence was further recognized through the Stella D. Elakovich Undergraduate Chemistry and Biochemistry Scholarship Endowment.
Beyond academics, Monroe became deeply involved in campus leadership and student organizations. As a Luckyday Foundation Scholar, she held numerous influential leadership roles throughout her college career. She served as President and Vice President of the Mu Nu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and also chaired the chapter’s audit committee.
Additionally, Monroe served as Vice President of Financial Affairs for both the National Panhellenic Council Executive Board and the Afro-American Student Organization. Her campus involvement also included positions as Historian for the American Chemical Society at Southern Miss, GEWW Crew Leader, Ambassador for the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program, Director of Outreach for Eagle F1rst Executive Board, member of the Luckyday Advisory Board, and participant in the Honors College Leadership Council.
Now, Monroe is preparing for the next chapter of her educational journey. She will continue her studies at The University of Southern Mississippi by pursuing a Master’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science.
Through academic excellence, leadership, and service, Monroe continues to inspire students and her community, proving that determination and hard work can open doors to extraordinary opportunities.
