St. Aloysius opens season with win over Jackson Victors
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — St. Aloysius began its boys’ basketball season with a 58-40 victory over the Jackson Victors on Monday night.
Head Coach Walter Hallberg IV said his team’s athleticism and defensive focus will be key factors throughout the season.
“We’re super athletic, and if we play defense that’ll help our offense,” Hallberg said. “That will be the key thing for us this year, but we have to get the chemistry down, get in the gym, and learn to play together as a team.”
The Jackson Victors jumped out to an early lead before St. Al’s Tre Lee connected on two 3-pointers to bring the Flashes back. With just seconds left in the first quarter, Cole Nolan hit a 3-pointer to give St. Al a 13-11 advantage.
The Flashes took control in the second quarter as Carson Gleese caught fire, scoring 10 points and draining two 3-pointers. Garrod Bunch added two baskets before halftime as St. Al built a 33-19 lead.
Gleese led all scorers with 21 points, while Bunch finished with nine. Lee added eight, Carson Henderson scored six, Carter Henderson had four, and both Sadler Lambiotte and Nolan chipped in three points each. Walt Andrews and Grant Gattle added two points apiece.
In junior high action, the Flashes fell to the Jackson Victors. Henry Bell, Andrew Johnston, Adam Dorbeck, and Kellen Crocker each scored two points.
St. Aloysius will face Jackson Victors again on Thursday in a road rematch.
