The 2025-26 school year will be remembered as one of the most successful in the history of the Vicksburg Warren School District. Between Vicksburg High School and Warren Central High School, student-athletes captured 13 state championships, capping off a year filled with unforgettable moments and championship celebrations.

From football fields and swimming pools to tennis courts, track facilities and powerlifting platforms, VWSD athletes consistently rose to the occasion, earning championship rings and statewide recognition.

Athletics Director James Lewis said the accomplishments reflected the dedication of everyone involved in the district’s athletic programs.

“Looking back, it was a tremendous year for all of our schools,” Lewis said. “It’s not easy to be successful like that because it takes a lot of hard work from our athletes, coaches, administrators and school board. This is something we can’t take for granted. I applaud our students for their hard work and dedication.”

The championship run began in the fall when Warren Central claimed state titles in football and both boys and girls swimming. The Vikings added another championship in the spring by winning the state tennis title.

Lewis said witnessing Warren Central’s football championship victory in December was a moment he will never forget.

“It was a speechless moment because you see the excitement on the faces of the kids and coaches,” Lewis said. “It’s life-changing, and when you win a championship, your legacy never dies.”

While the fall season produced memorable achievements, the spring brought even more hardware.

Vicksburg High’s track and field program accounted for five individual state championships. Amiyah Hall won two state titles, while Zion Knox, McKenzy Edmond and Jayden Woods each earned individual championships. Warren Central’s Arrionna Jenkins also brought home a track state title.

The district also dominated in powerlifting. Vicksburg High’s Karter Thomas, LeAndrew Drake and Cedrionna Blackmore claimed state championships, while Warren Central’s Samuel Ross also captured a state title.

The success sparked celebrations across the district, including championship parades, ring ceremonies and recognition at athletic banquets. Although the titles came from two different high schools, the accomplishments represented one district united by a common goal.

For Lewis, the historic year serves as a reminder of what can be achieved when students, coaches and administrators work together toward excellence. The 13 state championships not only added trophies to school trophy cases but also created lasting memories that will inspire future generations of VWSD athletes.
