VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Vicksburg-Warren Economic Development Partnership announced today Amazon Web Services (AWS)—the world’s most comprehensive and widely adopted cloud platform—will locate new data center operations in Vicksburg and Warren County. The project represents a $3 billion capital investment, making it the largest in Warren County’s history, and is expected to create at least 200 new high-tech direct jobs and an estimated 500 additional indirect jobs across the region.

The decision to locate in Vicksburg comes after over two and a half years of work by state and local economic development and government officials who, along with Entergy Mississippi, worked with AWS to support their site selection process. Vicksburg and Warren County’s pro- business environment, the availability of sites in the area, and Entergy Mississippi’s commitment to meeting long-term power requirements were among the factors that helped Vicksburg and Warren County win the project.

The construction phase of this project is expected to employ more than 3,000 workers. Combined with the over 1,500 construction jobs anticipated from other major investments recently announced, such as Ergon’s $400 million expansion and Entergy’s $1.2 billion VAPS Power Plant, these projects will generate a sustained wave of economic activity and opportunity across the region for years to come.

Data centers enable customers of all sizes and across all industries—such as healthcare, manufacturing, automotive, financial services, public sector, and telecommunications, among others—to improve the way they do business. Vicksburg will now play a role in helping the millions of customers—from fast-growing startups to large enterprises—who use AWS to reduce costs, increase agility, and accelerate innovation.

Governor Tate Reeves made the announcement at an official ceremony held at Vicksburg’s Mississippi Center for Innovation and Technology (MCITy). “Throughout my administration, I have been committed to building an economy that attracts world-class investment. This latest multi-billion-dollar investment by AWS demonstrates that commitment and the company’s confidence in Mississippi’s talent and progress. Mississippi is proud to play such an important role in powering the digital infrastructure of the future, and I thank the AWS team for choosing Vicksburg and for bringing so many great new opportunities to Warren County.”

Bill Cork, Executive Director of the Mississippi Development Authority, also celebrated the win by Vicksburg and Warren County. “AWS’s $3 billion expansion into Vicksburg proves once again that Mississippi delivers what tech leaders need—reliable energy, top-tier talent, and speed to market. We get companies like AWS up and running fast so they can quickly turn investments into results. That means some of the world’s most sought-after jobs are being created right here at home while strengthening our tax base. And with Vicksburg’s strong infrastructure and supportive leadership, AWS has found the perfect fit for Mississippi to lead the next wave of tech-driven development.”

“Amazon’s $3 billion investment in Warren County will create lasting opportunities for Mississippi families and communities, building on our more-than-a-decade-long partnership with the Magnolia State,” said David Zapolsky, Amazon’s Chief Global Affairs and Legal Officer. “We’re investing in the people and communities that make Mississippi strong, from training more than 6,500 Mississippians through our workforce development programs to launching our new Warren County Community Fund that will address community needs like STEM education. This is what responsible growth looks like — bringing cutting-edge technology infrastructure to America while ensuring local communities benefit directly from that investment.”

Kelle Barfield, Warren County Board of Supervisors President, agreed about Warren County’s role in the future of the state’s tech-driven development opportunities. “There’s no question that technology has a home in Warren County. The decision by AWS to build here was met with a number of challenges that the economic development team had to confront, but with perseverance and the full support of state, county, and city leaders, all those hurdles were overcome. The result will be a major boost to our local tax base, securing revenues for services that continue to make Warren County such an ideal place to live and do business.”

City of Vicksburg Mayor Willis Thompson celebrated the win by adding, “This exciting announcement by AWS is about much more than economic growth—it’s about opportunity for our people. From our schools to local governments to our small businesses, every part of our community stands to benefit. This investment helps ensure that the next generation of Vicksburg residents can build their futures right here at home, in a city that continues to grow, innovate, and believe in itself.”

Pablo Diaz, President & CEO of the Vicksburg-Warren Economic Development Partnership, reflected on the unique nature of this win for Warren County. “Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) decision to locate in Warren County marks a defining moment for our region. Representing the largest single investment in Vicksburg’s history to date, this project will bring enduring and transformational benefits to our small businesses, create exciting career opportunities for our residents, and provide long-term revenues for our local governments. We are proud to welcome AWS as a pivotal partner in our growing technology sector and look forward to building a strong, lasting partnership that continues to drive growth and innovation in our community.”
