VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg High School head soccer coach Maurice Gilliam has added Perry Tolliver to his staff as an assistant coach. Tolliver, a Vicksburg native, returns to his alma mater after graduating from VHS in 2010.

“I’m really excited, and I feel like this is what the community needed,” Tolliver said. “Coach Maurice and I can learn from each other. I’m happy to be working with him because he has a lot of experience, and I’m just here to help the team.”

Tolliver played at VHS under former head coach Jason Bennett before signing with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, where he continued his soccer career. He also played at William Carey University.

His return to Vicksburg comes after gaining coaching experience outside the state. Tolliver previously worked at St. Mary’s Episcopal School in Memphis, Tennessee, and later coached in Colorado for the Colorado Rapids organization.

Gilliam said Tolliver’s background as both a former Gator and a seasoned coach will strengthen the program as the team continues preparing for the current season.
