St. Francis Xavier peewee teams claim multiple basketball championships

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — St. Francis Xavier basketball teams celebrated a championship-filled weekend as multiple peewee squads closed out their seasons with titles and strong finishes.

The sixth-grade boys peewee team captured the championship after winning two tournament games in one day. St. Francis opened play with a dominant 26-5 victory over Tallulah Academy before securing the title with a 16-6 win against Prairie View in the championship game. The title run showcased the team’s defensive effort and teamwork throughout the tournament. The sixth-grade boys were coached by Brandon Carr.

The sixth-grade girls peewee team completed a perfect season by finishing undefeated and claiming the championship with a 14-4 victory over Tallulah Academy. Maddy Tate led all scorers with eight points, while Liza Newman and Mercy Moore provided key contributions on both ends of the floor. The team was coached by Paul Moore, capping off an unbeaten championship season.

The fourth-grade St. Francis boys team competing in the B Division also brought home a title, earning an 18-15 overtime win against Briarfield Academy in the championship game. The team was coached by James Goodman and Abe Kidder.

The St. Francis girls B Division team added to the successful weekend with a second-place finish. That team was also coached by Paul Moore.
