Gators defeat Florence 57-44 on the road

FLORENCE, Miss. (VDN) — The Vicksburg High School boys’ basketball team picked up a road win Thursday night, defeating Florence 57-44.

The victory improved the Gators’ record to 11-8 overall and 5-2 in district play.

Vicksburg led at the end of every quarter, opening the game with a 16-10 advantage after the first period. Jaquez Jones knocked down two 3-pointers in the quarter, while Marlyn Foy scored seven points.

The Gators extended their lead to 27-15 by halftime. Jordan Clay connected on a 3-pointer, and Jayden Stewart added a pair of baskets before the break. Vicksburg maintained control in the second half as Foy and Jones continued to pace the offense.

Foy finished with a team-high 18 points, while Jones added 17. Jadarius Henderson scored nine points. Stewart, Jaquez Marshall and Clay each contributed four points in the win.

On the girls’ side, Vicksburg suffered a 46-15 loss to Florence. Madisyn Kimble led the Missy Gators with seven points, including two 3-pointers. Saudia Stewart scored three points, Zion Knox and Nykeria Watson each added two, and Raylyn Parson finished with one point.
