Lady Flashes win in penalty kicks and improve to 3-1
NATCHEZ, Miss.(VDN) — The St. Aloysius girls soccer team improved to 3-1 on the season with a hard-fought victory over Adams County Christian School that was decided in a penalty kick shootout.
After regulation ended in a tie, the Lady Flashes outscored ACCS 4-2 in the shootout to secure the win.
Mary Ruth Montgomery, LaniMarey Thurman, Frances Ferrell and Anna Kate McKnight each scored goals for St. Aloysius. Goalkeeper Sarah Smith delivered in the clutch, coming away with two key saves late in the match to help force the shootout.
Defensively, St. Aloysius withstood constant pressure as ACCS finished with nine shots as Smith saved six. The Lady Flashes’ back line of Taryn Lusby, Megan Theriot, Reese Lyons and Ferrell made several crucial plays to preserve the tie and give their team a chance to win in penalties.
