Warren Central powers past Vicksburg in a shutout win

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — The Warren Central High School softball team shut out crosstown rival Vicksburg High 23-0 on Tuesday in a game that ended after three innings.

Maddy Pant delivered a standout performance, going 4 for 4 at the plate with two home runs and six RBIs. She also struck out six batters in the circle to cap a dominant night.

“This feels great, especially coming back from last year and stepping up to beat Vicksburg,” Pant said. “We’re now locked in, but those home runs were amazing, especially in the biggest game of the year.”

Warren Central exploded for 18 runs in the first inning and added five more in the second.

The Lady Vikes got on the board early when MK Ferguson sprinted home on an error. Shortly after, Pant launched a two-run home run over the fence. Addi Mullen followed with an RBI before Mary Clell Allred ripped a two-run single. Mullen later scored on a wild pitch. KeKe McKay added a two-run triple and eventually scored on an error.

Anzley Keen and KK Williamson each delivered single RBIs to push the lead to 13-0. Payton Barlow contributed a two-run single before Ferguson added an RBI. Pant drove in another run with a single as Warren Central built an 18-0 advantage by the end of the first inning.

In the second inning, Barlow recorded a single RBI before Ferguson doubled to bring in another run. Pant capped the scoring with a three-run home run to extend the lead to 23-0.

McKay finished 3 for 3 with four RBIs. Ferguson (2 RBIs), Barlow (2 RBIs), Keen (1 RBI) and Williamson (1 RBI) each collected two hits. Emily Muirhead, Mullen (1 RBI) and Allred (3 RBIs) each added one hit.

For Vicksburg High, Camden McGloster struck out two batters, while Taylor Howard and Shandrea Lockridge each recorded a hit.
